An Interview With Koichi Sakamoto

Koichi Sakamoto is a household name for Power Rangers fans. The Japanese American director and producer best known for his work on Power Rangers from the mid-1990s up through 2009 before heading to Japan and working on iconic tokusatsu franchises. His new movie is Ninja vs. Shark, out now on Blu-ray.

Koichi Sakamoto is a Japanese-American producer, director and action director known for his work on the Power Rangers franchise, from the second season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to Power Rangers RPM. A lifelong fan of tokusatsu and Jackie Chan, Sakamoto got his start portraying tokusatsu heroes in Japanese stage shows before he moved to the U.S. to further his career. Since leaving Power Rangers, he has directed many projects for Toei and Tsuburaya. He has worked as the lead director for fan-favorite series like Kamen Rider Fourze and Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. He has also worked on independent tokusatsu films like Travelers: Jigen Keisatsu and Ninja vs. Shark, the latter of which is now available in North America through Media Blasters.
