Tue, 23 June 2009 Tyler, Tom, Ryland and -- for the first time in 50 episodes -- Lisa J take on "Ghosts." The Sentai-burning Gold and Silver intro episode leaves us minus one dumb van and plus two really annoying rangers. You win some, you lose some. Then we launch into a variety of random topics: -We read synopses of the next round of RPM episodes -Kamen Rider and logic and their sick, twisted relationship. Also, why Masked Rider was so messed up. -The RPM vol. 1 DVD hits July 7. Don't be a dirty pirate like Tom. Support the last season. -Anime Expo is a hair over a week from now. The schedule is up. Let's do this. -And Brandon MacLaren had to cancel. The SPD Red Ranger, again, had work. And good on him. Besides him, Amy Jo Johnson and Skylar Deleon (Day-lee-on? Or Dee-lee-ohn? Will we ever know), not many PR stars (or fake ones) have shaken the apparent curse. With the next RPM episode airing *during* Anime Expo, his will be it from us until after the con. Look for Tyler there Thursday through Saturday. If you will be there and have audio/video/photo equipment that you know how to use and wish to help Tyler out, email us. See you at the con! And speaking of cons, in the time between when this episode was recorded and when it was posted, Power Morphicon 2 was officially announced. Now, we would be lying if we said we didn't have our little birdies out there, but it's reassuring to finally see an official announcement. And no, the apostrophe in the title is not a typo. Fri, 19 June 2009 Chris "Cmdr Crayfish" Funaro makes his triumphant return to Rangercast, by popular demand. Chris, Tyler, Tom and Darrin break down some recent Toku news, including the upcoming Kamen Rider Double and Tsuburaya shopping around Ultraman. Can we haz decent DVDs first? Next, we break down "Embodied," and we brought our A-Game. What is Venjix doing? Why does Col. Truman not care? Why do the Rangers not mind that Doctor K screwed them all over? Why are Gem and Gemma...existing? Who are you people? AND WHERE IS MY HORSE?! Also, Rangercast is confirmed to hit Anime Expo in a couple weeks. Send in your questions for the PR guests and we'll try to get them answered. Finalle, between editing and posting, we got an email from the Parsec Awards. We've been nominated for Parsecs in Best Fan Podcast and Best Speculative Fiction podcast. Wish us luck. Comments[9] |
Tue, 2 June 2009 So there was a Fancasts panel back at Balticon. If you didn't know that, you're in good company -- the audience was two, three people at peak. It was 11 PM on a Sunday, so we could have seen it coming, but yet we soldiered on with the mixer and recorder running. I had the pleasure to share the stage... or dining-room-style table, as it were, in the Chesapeake Suite with Ted and Michele White of Galactica Quorum, Billy Flynn from Geek Radio Daily and MA from Fanboy Hell. We talk shop. How did we get to doing what we do? What have been our personal crowning moments of awesome? What do we do when our target show (be it Battlestar Galactica or, well, Power Rangers) ends? Do all of us have awesome British fans? Find out! And of course, huge props to Paul Fischer for pulling all of this programming at Balticon together and to the engineer who let me pull the audio data off their computer a the end. We will make an effort to do a live Rangercast next year, so stay tuned. Also, back by popular demand, it's Rangerboard Masterpiece Theatre! In this installment, GreenRangerPower, a RB member since 2003 with more than 71,000 posts to his name, suddenly wonders why we do what we do. Were it not the policy for RBMT to use only posts made since the last episode, this guy would have given us enough material in a week to last us a year. Back to your regularly scheduled Rangercast next week. Now off to watch some Shinkenger. Comments[7] |
Thu, 28 May 2009 Tyler, Ry, Gemma, Darrin and (later in) Tom peruse the responses to the Rangercast survey linked in 123's show notes. If you haven't taken it yet, please go ahead and let us pick your brains. Some of the responses were amusing. Some insightful. Then there was apparently a response from George Rodd or a skilled imitator. I'm sorry, Ben 10 and Mystic Force just are not a proper combination for our podcast. It's like ice cream and... hmm... Old Bay, to use a Baltimore classic. Yeah, ice cream and Old Bay. Separately they're delicious. But I'd never put Old Bay on my ice cream. I'm sure some people do, though. Then it's on to episode discussion. "Brother's Keeper" kicks off a few RPM-free weeks. Some people thought it would be about Gem and Gemma. Some people thought it would be about Scott and Marcus. All of them were wrong, as it turned out to chronicle the budding bromance between Scott and Dillon, handcuffing them together and making every slash fanfic writer squeal in glee. Meanwhile, Doctor K talks out of a thesaurus. And Ziggy always seems to know what happens next. It's like he watches the show or something. And don't worry, dear listeners. We have things to keep you busy during the brief RPM hiatus. We have our ways. Comments[4] |
Fri, 22 May 2009 A certain host and producer is detained at Balticon in Hunt Valley, Md., hanging out with podcasting friends like Tee Morris, Paul Fischer and Cthulhu. So from the archives, we bring you this panel with Tony Oliver at Katsucon from back in February.Yes, at one point we promised you a full Katsucon show. But the fact of the matter is that very little relevant to this show happened. And also the MacBook used to produce this show broke on the way home. It hit the pavement outside the Metro station in Greenbelt. Funny story, that. Anyway, that's probably a sign of some deity that a Katsucon show simply is not meant to be. Of course, we've spoken with Tony before, but this panel offers some morsels of new insights buried within as Tony educates the unwashed masses. To refresh your memory of the con that was, here are the photos from the con. Next week, we take on Brother's Keeper and then no new episode of RPM until 6/13. Hopefully we'll find something to entertain you. And yes, I am working on getting to Anime Expo. Plane plans, check. Lodging, check. Money... plastic. Time off work? Er, I hope? Like the bumper at the beginning of this show said, a little help would rock. I'm not begging. But hey, if you like us, definitely kick in a few bucks to help us keep doing what we're doing and help fund crazy trips like AX. Also, if you're an avid listener of RC, or even if you're just jumping aboard, we want to pick your brains. Click HERE to take a quick survey. Thanks a bunch! (And if you're joining because you grabbed the Rangercast flyer at Balticon or heard me talk about it at a panel, welcome. Check out our archives for added listening pleasure!) Comments[5] |
Thu, 21 May 2009 Via Anime Expo's official site, the PR representation at AX just got crazier. As you read this, Tyler is working on ways to get out there, and most certainly will try. It's not going to be easy and it's not going to be cheap. Airfare will run about $300. Supplies, hotel, etc. drive things up. If you'd like to join the fight to get Rangercast On Location @ Anime Expo, donate a dollar or two with that nifty little Paypal button up there in the corner. We don't ask much. We'd love you for it. Category: general -- posted at: 1:17 AM Comments[0] |
Tue, 19 May 2009 The crew tackles "Doctor K" and "Blitz." Twin tropes and helmet shots piss us off, but emo backstories are good times. And is Venjix THE Venjix? Did "Doctor K" seal the deal on that? Are you tired of the debate? Also, Tyler makes terrible horse puns and Impy wishes to remind you that the horse porn store is closed. Sorry, horse porn fans. In other news, Tyler and Mike's Otakon panel got rejected, along with panels by a lot of other awesome people, which kind of sucks. But hey, that's life, and either way, it'll be fun. Speaking of cons, if you're in the area, drop by Balticon this weekend for Tyler talking about podcasting and other fun stuff. And also Calls for Cthulhu. That guy rocks. Comments[7] |
Sat, 16 May 2009 Our interviews got kind of washed out due to time constraints, but we figure we've heard from Psychic Lover and Unicorn Table before, at least. What you're about to hear is Tyler and Gemma talking about what happened and the awesome stuff, some of which we can't talk too much about, which is why this episode is so darn short. Ah well. Also, here are pictures. The album is now updated with pictures of Psychic Lover, Unicorn Table and some fat, balding podcaster, all courtesy of Gemma Lascio. Thanks Gemma. Sorry this episode is coming so late. Between scheduling issues and exams, it was just hard to make happen then find the time to edit it all. Episode 122 should (cross your fingers) be recording tonight, so there's that. Comments[6] |
Thu, 14 May 2009 I'm sure all of you are waiting for RC121 with bated breath. But exam season kind of has priority. As of... an hour or so after this post, Tyler will have just one final left, so 121 and 122 will follow in short order. Stay tuned. Category: general -- posted at: 4:47 PM Comments[1] |
Tue, 5 May 2009 Yeah, we know we move fast. Anywho, back to your regularly scheduled Rangercast. Tyler, Ry, Darrin, Hayhay and Tom start out by chatting about the PRRPM DVD's. God we hope they sell well, because we finally want to buy them. Also, we talk about "Ranger Yellow" a two-parter that Tyler hates more than Ryland. It's true! Then on to the significantly better "Ranger Blue," which wishes to subtly remind you that Flynn is Scottish. Well huh. Who could've guessed? Also, Tyler will be at Balticon May 22-25 doing some panels. Drop by and say hi. Comments[8] |
