New Zealand Mint offers commemorative Power Rangers coin

The New Zealand Mint this week launched online orders for a limited-edition coin celebrating the 30th anniversary of "Power Rangers."

The coin features the original six members of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" team and the 30th-anniversary logo. The back is engraved with the Public Seal of Niue. Though the coin is worth NZ$2 as legal tender, it will cost fans US$99 to buy. The New Zealand Mint offers free shipping via FedEx. Only 1,993 coins will be minted, a nod to the year the show premiered.

The New Zealand Mint may strike some as an ironic partner. In 1994, after the Broadcasting Standards Authority sided with parents complaining "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" was too violent, Television New Zealand pulled the show off the air. The show has been produced in New Zealand since 2002 and was made available to viewers there once again starting in 2011, with the release of "Power Rangers Samurai."

Netflix last month premiered "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always," a reunion special featuring David Yost as Billy, Walter Emanuel Jones as Zack, Catherine Sutherland as Kat, Steve Cardenas as Rocky, Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam, Karan Ashley as Aisha and newcomer Charlie Kersh as Trini's daughter Minh.
